My apologies to Shelby County, AL

What a wretched day! Now I am very thankful off all my blessings, don't get me wrong.
I took a nap yesterday, bad idea, so sleep didn't come to me until 6am. At 6:30 the alarm goes off, and I am up at at 'em. Slugs moved faster. Since the threat of rain and storms has been surmised, Jack stayed inside this morning.
I take my niece to school, with minimal showers, so when I got home, I felt it safe to take him out and let him run around.
Finally what I have been waiting for! I stripped down, put on a old tshirt and my red polka dotted booty shorts, that I never wear outside the bedroom, and crawled under the covers. It was divine!
I was almost asleep, when my phone alerted me. I put it on vibrate, and snuggled down deeper. Then I hear it. A freaking monsoon. Rain of Biblical proportions. I trot to the door, looking to the skies of some hope it may dry up and I won't have to go out there, but the poor dog was being drenched, and he's a wuss anyway. To be half English Bulldog, half Lab, at 150 lbs, stout as a Clydesdale, he's a big ol' baby.

I throw a pair of flip flops, and go out.

Let's talk about the Walnut Tree in the back yard. Around this time of year these things are everywhere, little death bombs lurking like ninjas. I have hurt my ankle no less than 3 times. If a lawnmower were to hit one of these things, it would be like Hiroshima.

=

These are in my direct path between the dog and the backdoor. I have slippery mud and holes from my friend, the armadillo, also in my path.
I know as soon as I get to him and put him on a leash, he is going to take off like a racehorse, pulling me through all of this. Even when it's a dry pretty day, it's a challenge getting him in without falling or dislocating a shoulder.

So I get to him, leash him, and make it all the way to the door in one piece, with water and mud in every unmentionable crevice. He's jumping up on me, ready to get inside.

I then notice the problem. The horror.
I am locked out.

Because my cat Luci is a whore, getting in and out of the back door is a challenge itself, making sure she doesn't get out to fornicate the local feral cats.
So when I ran out, I slammed the door to make sure it closed behind me. A bit too overzealous I might add.
I had no idea what to do. Even if I wasn't dressed like Strawberry Shortcake's Magical Carriage, this would still be bad. It's flooding, the dog is going berserk, and rainwater is making it's home in my crack.
I have no phone, no keys, and the car is locked. Every one I know within walking distance is not at home.
Luckily the Nissan that's parked in the driveway that I constantly complain about (because it doesn't run) wasn't locked. I put Jack in there and then figured out my next move. NO way was I going back through the mine field.

I went to the front door, KNOWING, it was deadlocked, but I had to try. I thought about the windows, but they all lock automatically. At this point, I am developing hypothermia in my crack. And not to mention this is 7:30-8am morning traffic and we live right off the highway.
Then I remembered the last time I was locked out. I could try the sliding glass doors. They've never been used as an entrance/exit, my father in law put the couch in front of them. That means, there are no stairs or stoop.
I put a lawn chair underneath, and even standing up in it, the living room floor was waist high to me. Let's face it- I am neither ninja nor acrobat. Coordination is my #1 enemy.
But despite the rain, the mud, the leaves, I climb.
I should probably take this moment to apologize to the Shelby County community for exposing my good girl to the morning school traffic. I know all that white flesh and polka dots was too much for one soul to bear so early on Hump Day.

And that screen door was ripped off and on the ground already.

(I'm lying)

I get in while pushing the couch forward, trying to keep all 4 cats from running out, and NOT falling out of the wet chair. I crawl in like Samara from The Ring, with water dripping behind me, I go straight to my bedroom and put on warm, dry clothes, and wrap my hair in a towel.

I grab the mop and broom and sweep up my mess. I put the couch back, and fixed a tall glass of Dt Mtn Dew. Life is restored.

Until I remembered the dog I left outside.

I had to go right back out in it.

Tomorrow he's staying out there. The Ark can pick him up.

More things overheard at my house...

Scott- "W's wife wants us to come over when everyone's free, to talk."

Me- "talk about what?"

Scott- "you know, just sit and visit"

*confused look*

Me- "People really do that?"

Scott- "I guess"

*Sigh*

*silence*

Me- "she doesn't have Facebook?"

Five Life Lessons on how to treat people

Five Life Lessons on how to treat people

-- Author Unknown

1. First Important Lesson - "Know The Cleaning Lady"

During my second month of college, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one: "What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, dark-haired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say "hello."

I've never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.

2. Second Important Lesson - "Pickup In The Rain"

One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.

A young white man stopped to help her, generally unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab.

She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home.

A special note was attached. It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway the other night. The rain drenched not only my clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along. Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying husband's bedside just before he passed away. God bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving others."

Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.

3. Third Important Lesson - "Remember Those Who Serve"

In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10 year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him. "How much is an ice cream sundae?" he asked. "50¢," replied the waitress.

The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied the coins in it.

"Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?" he inquired. By now more people were waiting for a table and the waitress was growing impatient. "35¢!" she brusquely replied.

The little boy again counted his coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream," he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the cashier and left.

When the waitress came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish, were two nickels and five pennies. You see, he couldn't have the sundae, because he had to have enough left to leave her a tip.

okay that^^ made me cry #justsayin

4. Fourth Important Lesson - "The Obstacles In Our Path"

In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.

Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand - "Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition."

5. Fifth Important Lesson - "Giving When It Counts"

Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year-old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the little boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying, "Yes, I'll do it if it will save her."

As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?".

Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood in order to save her.

Just a little rant

I've never been much of a tv watcher. I like movies, music, and books. TV shows are too much of a commitment for me. I usually find a show I like, get really into it, and then lose interest. When I was a tween, "Full House" was the best show on! And yet I've seen maybe 2 episodes of the last season. And that's counting all the reruns that come on 5 times a day.

"Saved by the Bell" was probably the first show I ever stuck with from beginning to end.
I started watching "Grey's Anatomy" in the second season (the Bomb episode) and then started from the beginning, loved it, but as season 5 came along I was bored. And I hate Izzie/Katherine Heigl with a passion..but I stuck with it, thanks to Hulu for letting me catch up 4 and 5 episodes at a time.

(In my whiny Katherine Heigl voice)
Boo hoo the show is called GREY'S Anatomy and I'm pitching a fit that Ellen Pompeo's name comes before mine in the credits, so I will refuse an Emmy nomination because I don't think the writers gave me a good plot line so I will shortly develop a brain tumor and start having sex with a ghost..

I discovered "NCIS" and "CSI:NY" when we got high speed and I could watch online. I haven't seen too many of the newer NCIS', but I know one night I will get bored and catch up. I love McGee too much. Hence my email addy "SpecalAgentMcGee@MYEMAILDOMAIN"
That's right. I didn't spell check before I hit submit on the SPECIAL.

Moving on..

So that brings me to my latest dilemma. I LOVE CSI:NY. Flack and Danny alone are worth watching every week. Gary Sinise is a brilliant actor, and Hill Harper is a walking ball of inspiration. AJ BUCKLEY is one of my newest all time fav actors.

I started watching "Fringe" the night it debuted, and even though I got way behind, in my laptop right now is Season 2 Disc 4 from Netflix, so I can catch up. LOVE me some Joshua Jackson.

SO! I sign into Yahoo IM tonight, innocently, and I see where those 2 shows are "on the bubble"!! Possible cancellation!! WHY!!!

Didn't I suffer enough with LOST! RIGHT as I started watching the show, got REALLY into it, the last season was announced. For 4 weeks I did nothing but watch the first 5 seasons on NETFLIX, so I could catch the last season when it premiered. And then it ended. I didn't get the full effect as the other LOSTIES because I crammed it all in so soon.

This is like when "MacGyver" started coming on USA and for 3 years I was watching reruns before I knew that brand new episodes were coming on ABC. Sadness. My life was incomplete and I was not aware.

I did the same thing with Dawson's Creek though, my fav show of all time (don't judge me), I stopped watching religiously in the 3rd season, and then bought them all on DVD at once. It rocks. Seriously. True story.

What a great story! Roll Tide!

(not sure where this originated, it was FWD to me)

Ok yall attached are some pictures that will make you be (EVEN MORE) proud to be an Alabama Fan! This is third hand information so I will tell you what I know. The little boy pictured is terminally ill and has a very short period of time to live. The illness has also recently caused him to go blind. A cold call was made to the University of Alabama and after verification that the story was true a meeting was set up with the team, the boy and his family. I was told they spent like 5 hours with the boy and toured the whole facility and that the players stayed with him the whole time. In the pictures you will see the boy with Saban's National Championship rings on, sitting behind his desk etc. But the pictures that get me the most are the ones with Mark Ingram and Julio Jones. As I mentioned the boy just recently went blind and he wanted to feel Mark and Julio's muscles, in the pictures you can see him feeling their muscles. How awesome is that! Yesterday when I was told the story I asked if he would send me a few more pictures and I may get more, if I do I will send them out. In a time when all you hear is negative media on collage and pro players it is refreshing to hear a story like this. You can beat your behind that Coach Saban had a lot to do with all this and it makes me have an even greater respect for what he is doing in Tuscaloosa. YEP I am drinking the Kool aid and it is good! ROLL TIDE and May God bless this boy, his parents and the Coach/Players at the University of Alabama who made one of his final days on this earth a special one.

An open letter to Ashley Wilkes

I had a thought. Scary, I know. In "Gone With the Wind", a movie that I have seen no less than 100 times, mostly with my mother, I always wondered why Ashley, a born and bred Southen boy, had a British accent.

Yes I know that Leslie Howard who portrays Ashley was in fact, British. Granted that it's the most awesometastical sounding accent, next to Australian... But come on now. Vivian Leigh was from England and she was coached to have a Southern drawl.
Imagine the anarchy when the movie came out if Miss Scarlett O'Hara had sounded like Sharon Osbourne.

So why was it accepted that pansy ass Ashley doesn't have to talk like us? How was that explained?
I am not being harsh when I call him a pansy. Here is a clip from his character bio from Wikipedia...
"Ashley is the man with whom Scarlett O'Hara is obsessed. Gentlemanly yet indecisive, he loves Melanie, his cousin and later his wife, but is tormented by an obsession with Scarlett. Unfortunately for him and Scarlett, his failure to deal with his true feelings for Scarlett ruins any chance she has for real happiness with Rhett Butler, the true love of her life. Ashley is a complicated character. He is not sympathetic to the cause of the North. However, he isn't an ardent Confederate patriot, either. What Ashley loves about the South is the serene, peaceful life that he and his dear ones know at Twelve Oaks, and similar plantations. At one point (following the war) he comments to Scarlett that "had the war not come he would have spent his life happily buried at Twelve Oaks."
In short, Ashley loves the South, but not necessarily the Confederacy. And, he hates war, though he fights because of his loyalty to Georgia.
At one point in the book Ashley pleads, in vain, with his wife Melanie to move to the North, after he comes back from fighting in the American Civil War. However, this isn't because of any affection for the North, but because he wants to be able to stand on his own as a man, something he will never again be able to do in Georgia, now that his plantation is gone [and his home burned]. He ends up working for Scarlett, however, due to her manipulative entreaties and Melanie's naive support of her.
In a sense, he is the character best personifying the tragedy of the Southern high class after the Civil War. Coming from a privileged background, Ashley is an honorable and educated man. He is in clear contrast to Rhett Butler, who is decisive and full of life, but is vulgar and distasteful as well."

See? Pansy. And that's not the P word I want to use here, but I know my Mama is going to read it and she scolds me when I use the P word ;)

So it's not just the fact that cast a girly man to play a wussy character, but this is A GEORGIA MAN!!!

Why not cast Precious to play Karen Carpenter?

Before I get sued for slander by the Leslie Howard family, I am not dissing him. I'm sure he was a cool (somewhat possibly macho) man, and I am sorry his plane was shot down by Nazis in WWII. If he was around today, he would've made a great Dr Cullen.

Let's face it- there are only 2 British men that could possibly take me down...
